Agartala: Mar 27: District-level integrated football training and development programme has started from today at Tripura Sports School ground at Badharghat.
Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Manoj Kanti Dev inaugurated the event with a function in the afternoon. Dev said that the program was initiated as part of the current state government’s to take village level players to the international level through training. Rs 15 crore has been received from NEC for this three-year project.
The target is to impart quality training to 200 players from each district of the state. He added that the program will have four Spanish coaches, eight Indian coaches and eight Tripura coaches. If everyone does their job properly in this work, we will have qualified footballers from this small state of whom we can be proud. He said work was underway to build a proper infrastructure for the game so that football talent could come out from different parts of the state.
MLA Mimi Majumder said that if the foundation is not solid, the whole thing will remain raw. She said the state government was working in line with the Sports for All policy. she called upon all to extend a hand of cooperation in this initiative. The function was presided over by Subhash Devbarma, Director, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
