Agartala: Mar 31: Bimal Sinha, the leader of the anti-terrorism struggle, was shot dead by terrorists 10 days after he was sworn in to the cabinet after the formation of the Left Front government in the state in 1998 under the leadership of Comrade Manik Sarkar. Bimal Sinha was a popular leader among the tribal people but he was assassinated conspiratorially. In memory of Bimal Sinha, CPIM leader Comrade Bimal Sinha Martyr’s Day was observed on Wednesday at CPIM headquarters Dasharath Dev Bhavan. On the same day, Left Front Chairman Bijan Dhar and other leaders paid homage to the portrait of Comrade Bimal Sinha by giving flowers and wreaths. Speaking on the occasion, the Left Front chairman said that an effort was being made to suppress the unity among the tribes. He said there was an overall effort in the state to corner the unity between races and tribes on the basis of religion, ethnicity or community. Moreover, the slogan of unity that is being raised in today’s ADC election is provocative because the basic problems of the common man are food, clothing, housing, employment and roads, drinking water and the distribution of water among the leaseholders through the Forest Rights Act. He called the slogan of Greater Tipraland or Smaller Tipraland Joomla.
